In a case about the legality of her election as a legislator from Chittoor’s Nagari in 2014, the Supreme Court allows film actress and YCP MLA Roja to have a separate hearing in High Court.
A petitioner Rayudu had earlier approached the Hyderabad High Court saying that Ms. Roja’s election is invalid on account of wrongful submission of information about her assets.Roja had also filed a counter-petition in High Court to quash the one filed by Rayudu.
The High Court had however said that it will take a joint hearing of both petitions. But, an unsatisfied Roja moved the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision for a joint hearing. The Supreme Court on Monday asked the High Court to hear Roja’s plea separately as she wishes. The SC also directed the High Court to complete the hearing by year end.
MLA Roja, who is also under one-year suspension from Assembly after the ruckus she and others created in there, has also unsuccessfully moved the Supreme Court to invalidate her suspension.
