BJP is seriously thinking about handing the reigns of the party to a new face in Andhra Pradesh replacing its current president Kambhampati Haribabu, sources suggest.
Reports suggest that Soma Veeraraju, an MLC could be a possible candidate to replace Haribabu, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Vizag. Mr. Haribabu’s tenure as a President had ended recently. Though, party leadership thought of extending his tenure, it is said that they are having second thoughts now. Another senior leader, Kanna Laxmi Narayana, who held several State Ministries under Congress rule, who jumped ship in 2014, could be another possible candidate sources say.
This change will be in accord with BJP’s plan to handover leadership to new faces in other States like Jharkhand, Bihar and Delhi. The party has recently named new presidents for 5 States including Telangana last month.
A decision regarding those four States’ leadership would be taken before the party’s National Council meets on June 11 and 12. A possible shuffle in Modi’s Union cabinet could also take place before the meet, some reports indicate.
