Avalanche’s Mikko Rantanen Under Concussion Protocol; Out Against Stars

Coach Bednar mentioned that Rantanen did some workouts and skated by himself yesterday and this morning. However, he’s still in the concussion protocol, which means he has to follow specific steps before he can play again.

Rantanen’s absence is tough for the team because he’s an essential part of their top line, scoring 102 points, including 40 goals, this season. Plus, he’s a big player at 6 feet 4 inches tall and 215 pounds. It’s challenging to find someone who can do what he does, especially with the playoffs coming up.

Teammate Jonathan Drouin acknowledged that Rantanen’s absence is a big loss for the team. They hope he gets better soon. Meanwhile, Miles Wood, another winger from the third line, also missed the Stars game due to a lower-body injury. He’s also considered day by day for his return. Wood had 24 points, including nine goals, in 72 games this season. To cover for Rantanen and Wood, Joel Kiviranta and Chris Wagner stepped into the lineup for the game.
